Last night, I had a really fun time hanging out with the crew from Mobile Monday DC, the mobile device community user group. The meeting was held at the very swanky Science Club in Northwest Washington DC.

I got to meet a lot of really cool people from the mobile industry. Other then the speakers, it seemed like everyone there worked on creating content specifically for mobile devices.

I was talking with one really nice gentlemen and I got him to admit that a few years down the road that the mobile web could put companies that make mobile portals out of business. Why do you need to create a specialized portal when you have access to the whole World Wide Web? (interesting…*strokes chin*)

Yeah I was the only Web developer there. (not surprising)

This month they had Patrick Hearn and Greg Garback in to talk about Near Field Communication technology. It’s the stuff that they put in control access cards for buildings or the “pay and go” credit cards. Greg spoke of how we will all see the payment system revolutionized in the next five years.

Next Month, Mobile Monday DC will be hosting Nokia. They are going to come in and show off all their latest phones that are and aren’t in stores yet. It sounds really cool.
