Mozilla Firefox 2.0 Alpha Doesn’t Chew Up My Computer Processor…YAY!
I recently downloaded the latest alpha release of Mozilla’s Firefox 2.0 (aka Bon Echo.) I am excited because it doesn’t seem to chew up my computer processor.
In the past, I have had a problem with some browsers. The browser would be open for a while with a bunch of tabs. All of a sudden my computer would slow WAY down. I’d look on the Mac OS X Activity Monitor and it would say that I was using up 85-90% of my computer processor with the browser. The browser had crippled my computer.
I think my more computer hardware oriented friends call this a memory leak.
I have been using Opera 9 Beta 2. I have been really happy with it. It doesn’t chew up my processor. It is a great bowser. The bit torrent integration is AWESOME!.
I was listening to Inside the Net with Amber MacArthur. She was interviewing the Mike’s from Mozilla. They said the new Alpha of Firefox 2.0 was coming out so I thought I’d give it a whirl. As I said before, it really works great. The text box spell checker is amazing and the search suggestions feature is also pretty awesome.
I was excited about giving the browser Flock a try. They just did their Beta 1 release. I was listening to the interview with the Flock team on TalkCrunch this morning.
Unfortunately, Flock Beta 1 chews up my processor. I had the browser open for 20 seconds and it was using 80% of my processor. It sounds like this is a problem they are aware of.
