Pandora - Make Your Own Online Music Radio Station With This Innovative Recommendation Engine
I had a 2 1/2 hour layover in Detroit’s Metro airport. While I was walking around and waiting for my flight, I listened to this week’s Inside the Net with Amber MacArthur and Leo Laporte. This week they talked with Tim Westergren of Pandora Media.
Pandora Media, through the Music Genome Project, went in and documented the different aspects or attributes of over 10,000 artsts. They wanted to see if they could document the different building blocks of a song. It’s genome.
They then used the database of info from the Music Genome Project to make radio station creator Pandora, which recommends what music you might like and plays it for you.
You start off by telling it one band that you like. It will look at the attributes of the music that that band plays. It will find similar music. You decide whether you do or not like what they are playing. This helps for them to refine the recommendations that they make for you.
This is really cool. TRY THIS!!! You will discover all new bands that you have never heard of that you will really like. I wish you could set something like this up for satelite radio for the car. I’d never listen to “traditional” radio ever again. I have podcasts for talk radio and this for music.
I am serious. Go try this. It’s crazy cool. Comment in my blog what you think of it.
