Podcasting

Podcasting and World Wide Web27 Dec 2006 07:09 pm

Digg.com recently launched a really great feature which allows people to go through and digg different podcasts. You can digg a whole podcast or you can digg specific episodes. This is great for unearthing really great podcasts that I have never heard of.

I really enjoy listening to podcasts at work. It just usually doesn’t work out that I can watch a video podcast but its pretty easy to listen to something

I wish Digg.com would distinguish between audio and video podcasts. I wish I could have it just show audio podcasts.

As I mentioned before, Digg.com has added this really nice podcast section to the web site. It is a great way to discover new podcasts that you may not have heard before.

I’m really into gourmet cooking. I found Chef Jamie Oliver’s podcast. I would very much like to subscribe to this podcast because I want to put the audio files on my iPod. I don’t want to listen to or watch it from Digg. How do I do this?

I could copy the URL from the podcast rss feed into Apple iTunes but do you expect my mom to be able to know how to do this. There should be a button which says, “subscribe to in iTunes.”

Come on Digg.com. Make it easier for people to use.

My friends at RIT University News have just started a podcast, Dateline RIT.

They talk about RIT news and with different newsmakers at RIT about what kind of exciting things they are doing. It is only five minutes per episode so it doesn’t take a lot of time to listen to. As a newly minted alumni, I really enjoy this because it helps me stay in touch.

I think it is exciting that RIT University News is doing so much to embrace new media. Keep up the good work guys!!!

Leo Laporte’s TWiT Nework has added a new podcast, MacBreak Weekly. It is a great new podcast where each week they will talk about news and issues surrounding Apple Computers.

Leo Laporte is a podcasting super hero. He brings a good cast of characters with him: David Pogue, Amber MacArthur, Chris Breen, and Alex Lindsay. This show has the same energy as the podcast This Week In Tech but its all about Mac stuff. Check it out.

I really wish I had travel money and an expense account so that I could attend conferences like @media 2006, the web development conference, in London. Sadly, I don’t think work is going to give me that kind of money.

@media has an awesome speaker lineup this year.

Blogosphere, will any of you that are going to the @media conference be podcasting or live blogging the sessions? I looked on their web site and didn’t find much info. If you are, drop me a comment. Thanks!

Podcasting and My Life25 May 2006 10:44 am

I have never been really good at cleaning my apartment. I think it is partially due to usually doing homework most of my Saturdays all day. Back home, in Lansing, we always took Saturdays to clean.

My parents are going to be landing at Rochester Airport in about 6 hours for graduation weekend here at RIT. I have been taking it as an excuse to really get to down and clean my apartment. I wasn’t looking forward to cleaning. It is AMAZING how nice it looks now.

One thing that really helped make it a more positive experience was my iPod. I had a few podcasts (This Week In Media, The Web 2.0 Show) that I hadn’t listened to yet. I cranked up the iPod and went at it. Cleaning went by a whole lot faster. I could let my mind concentrate on the podcast and not how disgusting and boring cleaning was.

What do you guys do to make cleaning not an experience that you want to procrastinate?

Last Sunday, I wrote a post asking the question about how can a blogger engage a podcaster in a conversation.

I was excited to see that dynamic duo of Chris Saylor and Josh Owens, from the well known podcast The Web 2.0 Show, talked about the post in their latest episode.

First off, thanks guys for the mention! I have been a loyal listener to the show from episode number one. It is an honor to get mentioned on your show.

They suggested, for having a conversation between a podcaster and a blogger, that you grab the time stamp in the podcast, transcribe the podcasters thoughts, put your comments in your blog, and then just make sure the podcaster gets the trackback.

I think that is a great suggestion. I just wish it was easier than that. It would be nice if it was some add-on into my blog software that only took me three clicks to do. Maybe this is a feature they can put into Flock?

I was very excited to see that the TWiT Network was going to be starting a new podcast, This Week In Media. It is “a discussion about both the business and technology of digital media production. ”

Initially they got into the business side of media production. This was cool. It is interesting to hear what these media production experts have to say about issues like how media is distributed. How media or information is disseminated across the web and the world fascinates me.

Then they got into the technology side of media production. Wow, I lost interest really quickly. They got talking about cameras, production equipment, and software. I just got really bored listening to them.

I will be anxious to hear episode two but if they do another indepth analysis of codecs, 3d rendering software, and high definition cameras, the show probably won’t stay on my podcast list that long.

I am not saying the show was bad. I am just saying it was a little too geeky for me.
