World Wide Web and Conferences14 Nov 2006 08:29 pm

Tomorrow I am headed to the Washington/Dulles Hilton Hotel for the 30th annual Internationalization and Unicode Conference. It is the premier conference on Web and software internationalization.

Tomorrow I have a day of tutorials. Thursday and Friday there will be normal conference sessions. I am going to try and take my laptop to as much of the conference as possible so that I can blog all of my notes.

I am excited to see what the speakers have to say. I suspect that you will soon see Web Internationalization become as mainstream with Web developers at XHTML and CSS. It will have to be as more people realize the World-wide reach of the World Wide Web.

I want to meet as many people at the conference as possible. If you’re going, drop me a comment or an e-mail (justin at mycapitalweb dot com). I’d love to grab a coffee and chat about your Internationalization experiences.

So yeah…BarCampRochester was a HUGE success.

Over the course of the day we had 30-35 people come in to the event to check things out. It was the perfect amount of people for the amount of space and time that we had. Check out the flickr stream.

We had people presenting on everything from distance learning, interactive classrooms, new Web 2.0 apps, wikis, Ruby on Rails, and web accessibility.

People are already asking when the next BarCampRochester will be. I guess we need to start planning. If you want to help out with the next BarCampRochester, post a comment.

WE05 and Conferences05 Oct 2005 02:05 pm

There is this really sweet web development conference that is held in Australia, Web Essentials o5. All the people that are big names in web development are at this conference. The only problem is that I am in Rochester, NY, USA and this conference is in Australia.

Now if you have a huge travel budget and worked for a big corporation, this may work. I don’t have a big travel budget.

The cool people at Web Essentials podcasted all of the speaker sessions. This is great. A lot of the speakers are also posting their presentation slides up to their blogs which is also very nice. I can be at the conference without actually being there.

Why can’t more people be doing this? Are more conferences doing this?
